Miguel Pengel on Instagram: "Most people rarely notice them, but those little fins on the side of an engine nacelle (called strakes) actually do a huge job. When a big engine sits in front of a wing, it disrupts the airflow and can cause the flow to separate at high angles of attack. That makes the wing lose lift right where you don’t want it. The strake generates a controlled vortex that helps in keeping airflow attached to the wing and stable during takeoff, landing, and low-speed manoeuvres.
